Obituaries notes for John Starr Trites

“We record with regret this morn, the death of John S. TRITES, an old resident at Moncton and one well known all along the line of the I.C.R. Mr. Trites was in the railway service about 30 years, latterly being trackmaster between St. John and Amherst, but was superannuated about two years ago. A short time after he had a stroke of paralysis and has since been in a very feeble state. Deceased was a son of Louis TRITES who emigrated from Germany and was one of the oldest residents of Moncton. He was for 50 years a member of the Baptist church and had been identified with the masonic body for about 30 years. Mr. Trites leaves two brothers and one sister. Abel G. TRITES, Petitcodiac, Thomas T. TRITES, St. John and Mrs. Rufus SMITH, Salisbury. His sons are J.S. TRITES, merchant in Sussex; Capt. Frank B. TRITES of barque "Stillwater", L. Carl TRITES, now in New York; his daughters, Miss Maude TRITES, Mrs. W.B. GEROW, St. John; Mrs. Francis ESTABROOKS, Mrs. J.S. TUPPER, Mrs. Thos. ESTABROOKS, Sackville. The funeral will take place tomorrow under masonic auspices. Service in the house at 13:30, cortage to leave 14 o'clock.”51

“The funeral of late John S. TRITES took place from his residence Fleet Street. Rev. W.B. Hinson conducted the services at the house, Messrs. Campbell and Prince, also taking part. The route of the funeral procession was down Highfield and Main streets and thence to the Rural Cemetery where the burial took place in accordance with the masonic ceremony. (see original)”51

“John S. TRITES, an old resident of Moncton and well known in Sussex as the father of John S. TRITES, one of our merchants, died Sunday. Deceased had been in the railway employ for 30 years. Latterly he was employed as trackmaster between St. John and Amherst and about two years ago was superanuated. Shortly after he had a stroke of paralysis. He has been a member of the First Baptist Church for about 50 years and has been connected with the Masons nearly thirty years. Two brothers and one sister survive him being Thomas T. TRITES of St. John, A.G. TRITES, Petitcodiac and Mrs. Rufus SMITH of Salisbury. He leaves five daughters and four sons viz., Mrs. W.B. GEROW, Mrs. F. ESTABROOKS, Mrs. J.S. TUPPER, Mrs. T. ESTABROOKS and Miss Maud TRITES. His sons are: Capt. Frank TRITES, J.S. TRITES, Carl TRITES and George TRITES. The funeral took place Tuesday under Masonic auspices.”51
