1841 census lists Ann, age rounded down to 15, living with parents John and Ann and siblings Frances and Emma, in Mild End Old Town, Stepney.
129There is a listing for an Ann Elizabeth Barrow being christened at St. Dunstan, Stepney, London with parents John Barrow and Ann, so this is probably her, in which case the middle name is Elizabeth.
90Having said that, there was another Ann Elizabeth (age rounded down to 15) living with her family on the 1841 census in Red Lion Yard, Amwell, St. James Clerkenwell, with parents John and Ann (ages rounded down to 40) and siblings John age 20 (rounded down), Martha age 11, Je (James?) age 4, and Mary age 15 (rounded). The daughter Ann in this family grouping was actually named Ann Elizabeth which we know from her marriage record in 1843 when she married the blacksmith James George White, and by 1851 they too had settled in Red Lion Yard where her brother John was an Ostler (presumably taken over from his father the “Coach Proprietor” at the time of his daughter’s wedding).
8 However since the later censuses repeatedly state this Ann and her brother John were born in Clerkenwell, it doesn’t seem as likely for her to have been christened in Stepney like the Ann Elizabeth mentioned earlier.
We assume that Ann Barrow is the same as Hannah Elizabeth Barrow and is Frances Martha’s sister because of the following points:
1) The Barrow family grouping in the 1841 census with John Barrow, wife Ann, daughters Frances, Ann and Emma is very likely our family.
2) The death of John Barrow on 5 Abbey Street in 1849 is very likely the same John Barrow, given his occupation, neighbourhood and age, and the fact that Ann Barrow is living as a widow with her daughter Emma by the next census in 1851.
3) It is proven that the John Barrow who was the father of Hannah Elizabeth is the same as the one who died at 5 Abbey Street, since his name and address was listed on Hannah’s marriage record in 1946.
4) Daughter "Ann" (Hannah) is no longer living with Ann senior and Emma by the 1851 census, implying she was married prior which fits with her marriage to John Silk Sherrard.
5) ”Frances Martha” was a witness at Hannah's marriage which was at the same church evidently where Frances Martha Barrow was christened.
6) Frances Martha named her first daughter Ann Elizabeth while Hannah named a child Francis.
197Hannah Elizabeth Sherrard is listed as age 81 at the time of her death in Nov, 1910 suggesting a birth year of 1829. Her father is listed as John Barrow, occupation Coal Measurer. Unfortunately doesn’t name her mother.
