John Givan returned to Ireland for his marriage to Frances Hamilton in Omagh, County Tyrone, 1828 and they then returned to Givan Wharf, Nova Scotia, Canada (according to account of grand-daughter Nina Givan Purton).

Founded by John Givan, it lay across from Hamilton Wharf.
The name was changed to Harbourville on Mar 4, 1860.
