“Caroline (Jones) O'Blenis
The death of one of Moncton's oldest and most highly respected citizens occurred early Thursday morning [30 Aug 1962] in the person of Mrs. Caroline O'Blenes, widow of Amos O'Blenes, at her home, 9 Dufferin Street [but, see below, where address is 49 Dufferin St]. Mrs. O'Blenes, who was born in Steeves Mountain, December 27, 1863, was in her 99th year. She was a daughter of the late William H. and Katherine Jones.
She was the oldest member of the Highfield United Baptist Church.
Surviving are two daughters, Miss Clarabel and Miss Helen M. O'Blenes and one son, Cecil T. O'Blenes, all residing at home, and one sister, Mrs. Lily Stiles, Calgary, Alberta. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
The body is resting at Cadman's Funeral Home, Alma Street, where the funeral services will be held today, August 31 at 2 p.m. Interment will be in Elmwood Cemetery.” [Daily Times, Friday, 31 Aug 1962, p. 5]220

”The funeral for Mrs. Caroline O'Blenes, 49 Dufferin Street, was held Friday afternoon [31 Aug 1962] from Cadman's Funeral Home, with Rev. L.E. Blaikie, pastor of St. Andrew's Presbyterian Church, officiating. Mrs. O'Blenes died Thursday.
The soloist, Corey Smith, sang the hymns Unto the Hills and The Lord Is My Shepherd.
Pallbearers were Gerald Jones [son of Luther Martin Jones & Edna Earle Steeves], Ottie Jones [son of Manley Jones & Ida Victoria Crossman], Russell Hope [son of Frank Douglas Hope & Lottie Florence Jones], Douglas Hope [son of Frank Douglas Hope & Lottie Florence Jones], Willard Broad [husband of Mildred G. Hope, daughter of Frank Douglas Hope & Lottie Florence Jones] and Elwin Allaby [husband of Jean Dorothy Brown, daughter of Albert Vesco Brown & Ella A. Jones]. [Note: all the Jones referred to as parents in this paragraph were siblings of Caroline (Jones) O'Blenis.]
Those attending the service were from Moncton and the surrounding district. Numerous floral tributes, Gideon Memorial Bibles and messages of sympathy were received.” [Daily Times, Saturday, 1 September 1962]220
