From the Berwick Register, Apr 4, 1923:
“W. W. Hamilton
William W. Hamilton died in hospital in Massachusetts on Saturday, March 17, 1923. He was the youngest son of the late Mr. David Hamilton and his wife, Mrs. Susanna (Hall) Hamilton, who formerly resided on the farm on Welsford Street, now owned by Mr. B. B. Spicer. Here the deceased was born on May 24, 1861. His childhood and his school-boy days were spent in Welsford. After attaining to man’s estate he went to Boston, where he worked as a builder. He resided for a time in Montrose and later in Revere, where he, of late, did business on his own account: building houses for sale. His last visit to Nova Scotia was in the spring of 1894.
Mr. Hamilton’s last illness was of some week’s duration. In the early winter he suffered an attack of la grippe, which laid him aside for a time and prevented the completion of a house which he was then engaged in building. From this illness he was supposed to have recovered but on the morning of Friday, January 26th, he was found in his room unconscious. He was taken at once to the Massachusetts General Hospital, where the physicians pronounced his chance of recovery very slight. Pneumonia was likely to develop and would almost certainly prove fatal. Seven weeks from the following morning, on March 17th, he passed away.
Mr. Hamilton is survived by two sisters, Mrs. Jennie Messinger, formerly of Berwick, now of Everett, Mass., and Mrs. Seffie Prior, of Burlingon, Vermont. Both these were regular visitors to the hospital during their brother’s illness. An elder brother, Henry, passed away some thirty years ago.
A funeral service, conducted by the Rev. Mr. Hodge, pastor of the Everett Baptist Church, was held at the private chapel of the undertaker and was well attended by friends and neighbors of Revere and Everett, among them being former boyhood briends of the deceased at Welsford. The remains were then taken to the host and accompanied by Mrs. Messinger were brought to Yarmouth, and thence to Berwick, where interment took place on wednesday, 21st., in the family lot in Berwick Cemetery, where rest the remains of his parents. The Rev. Mr. Hayden offered prayer at the grave. A good number of former neighbors and friends from Welsford and Somerset manifested their sympathy by their presence.”
