Notes for Winnifred (Winnie) Ada Jones
lived at 70 Swan Drive, Moncton, NB21
The oil painting of the Givan Coat of Arms in the Moncton Museum was donated from her estate in 197383 and therefore is likely to have come down to her from her mother Mary Givan who was the daughter of John Givan. This painting is labelled on the back by G. Marsh in 1874, nine years after John Givan’s death. Although it’s unknown where it originated, the Marsh name is not that common and there was a George Marsh in Kentville, Kings County, Nova Scotia on the 1871 census who may be the same person. It may have been commissioned by either Mary or one of Mary’s brothers, possibly William Roger Givan who was a prominant Moncton businessman by that time.
