“This week we record the death one of our older residents, Mrs. D.E. CASEY of Baie Verte (West. Co.) at the advanced age of 80 years. For the last 20 years of her life she has been afflicted with an ailment which kept her confined in the house. During her last illness she was only confined to her room for ten days. She passed peacefully away on the eve. of Feb. 4th. Four children survive: C.R. CASEY, Amherst, N.S; Mrs. CRANE-READ, who is now in California; W.A. CASEY, Baie Verte and Mrs. THOMPSON. She came of a hardy race, her father, the late James CHAPPELL of Tidnish was the son of the old pioneer, Capt. Eliphalet CHAPPELL, who was commander of the mail packet which ran between Troy, N.Y., Baie Verte and intermediate places. At the time of the Rebellion, prefering to be a British subject, he and his father came to Baie Verte, receiving large grants of land on part of which the villages of Baie Verte and Tidnish now stand.”
