Notes for Dirk Johannes Deodatus Waller
He’s listed as Devitt Joannes D. Waller in the Provincial Archives.
51“[He]...was Dutch, born in Dutch Indonesia in 1901 to a relatively well off family of Tobacco merchants. He was a bit of a black sheep and came to Canada at 18. During the war, while having been conscripted to the Royal Netherlands Army and posted in Washington DC, he worked as a translator at the embassy. [His wife]...and her three children, (she was expecting the fourth) were living in Washington with him. He fell off a ledge of the building one night while taking a short cut to the parking lot and broke his back, making him a paraplegic. They moved back to New Brunswick and lived the first few years at Magaguadavic lake. [He]...lived for 17 years more in a wheel chair.”
