Notes for John Arthur McNutt Colpitts
Listed in the 1851 census as Arthur, age 8.
84As per Hoar:
“When great grandfather Thomas died, the homestead went to his eldest son John Arthur McNutt Colpitts known as "Captain Arthur" who is said to have been a very difficult character. His wife was Abigail Charlotte Sherman known as Aunt Debbie. They raised 6 children in the old home (one infant death). Arthur's two mothers (his own mother Ann Margaret and his mother-in-law Mary Sherman were also a part of the household. . . . Perhaps the two mothers were good friends; perhaps this is reflected in the fact that they share a headstone in the "new" Pleasant Vale cemetery. Great grandfather Thomas is buried in the Old Burying Ground (Pioneer Cemetery) located on the hillside above Robert's old home in the Vale.”
