Notes for Johann Heinrich (Henry) Stief
He was the son of a cattle herder in Württemberg.111
Although not directly related to us, he was one of the original founding settlers of Monckton Township in 1766, and was associated closely in Philadelphia with the three families from which we are descended. The family name was anglicized to Steeves after emigrating from Pennsylvania.
Children Jacob, John, Christian, Frederick, Henry, Lewis, Matthias.

From Les Bowser:
“Heinrich and Regina Stief arrived in Philadelphia on October 17, 1749 aboard the ship Fane, Captain William Hyndman, with 119 men and their families, after a journey of unknown duration from Cowes and Rotterdam, which for the Stiefs began in Münsingen in the heart of the Swabian highlands of Württemberg. Heinrich’s signature is readily identifiable on the passenger list of the Fane.”178
