Obituary for Christina "Chris" (Esgro) Vaughn
Christina "Chris" Vaughn, 88, passed away on October 17, 2018 after a short but courageous battle with cancer.

Chris was a lifelong parishioner of St. Vincent de Paul parish where she belonged to the Legion of Mary and was an active participant in many loving works of charity both at and outside St. Vincent’s. She put her strong faith in God in action through the loving support she freely gave to family, friends and strangers alike. She was a tireless laborer in God’s vineyard, whether it was organizing the annual St. Ann Triduum, teaching religious education, helping to decorate and clean the church, cooking her legendary biscotti, meatballs or other amazing dishes for funeral luncheons or other events—Chris was always available to lend a helping hand and was a friend to all, especially those in need. She had a special devotion to the Sacred Heart of Jesus and the Blessed Mother, and volunteered at the Sacred Heart Apostolate in Syracuse, filling water bottles at Lourdes Volunteers, and helping at Joseph’s House.

Chris was the matriarch of the Vaughn family and is survived by her four children—Barry (Marianne), Michael, Maria (Ernie) Miller and Rich (Kellie) Vaughn. She will be dearly missed by her grandchildren whom she loved and adored: Kristen (Adam) Parente, Joe, Jennifer (Jay Casper) Vaughn, Stephanie (Mark) Vallely and Stacey (Kyle) Young, Katie, Daniel, Tim and Patrick; and her great grandchildren Audrey, Julia, Ryan and Joey, Bella, McKenna, Connor and Jack, Lily and Emma. Chris was predeceased by her husband Richard Vaughn Sr., her parents, Frank Esgro and Rose (Di Paola) Ricciardi, her beloved sister Vera and her beloved brother Joe.

Chris enjoyed being with family and friends, especially at the family camp in Canada that she helped establish, SU sports, reading, praying the rosary, traveling and cooking. She was an amazing cook and shared her best recipes with many family members and friends.

Chris's family will forever be grateful to the caring health care professionals she was blessed to have at The Cottages in Cicero, Upstate Hospital (both Downtown and Community branches) and Francis House.

Family and friends may call on Friday, October 19, 2018 from 4-7 pm at THOMAS J. PIRRO JR. FUNERAL HOME, 3401 Vickery Rd. (corner of Buckley Rd.) North Syracuse. A Mass of Christian burial will be held at 10:00 am on Saturday, October 20, 2018 at St. Vincent de Paul Church, 342 Vine St. Syracuse. Interment will be at Assumption Cemetery following the funeral Mass. A memorial luncheon honoring Chris’s life will be held following interment in the basement of St. Vincent de Paul Church.

Donations may be made to any or all the following charities with whom Chris had a special relationship and fondness: Our Lady of Lourdes Hospitality North American Volunteers (lourdesvolunteers.org), Joseph’s House (jhfw.org) or St. Vincent de Paul Church (stvincentdepaulchurchsyr.org).
