Apparently under the feudal system her family was a warden of the lands for the baron and therefore they had some status over the workers and lived in a better house. After the end of the feudal system her father was a land owner.
Her parents came to U.S.A and Anna was born there but the story goes that “The Black Hand”, a precursor of the Mafia, was demanding protection money and the family felt threatened. Therefore they moved back home to Sicily.
Emigrated to Canada and arrived in Halifax on May 6, 1925 to marry Antonino Valenti in Toronto.
