At the time our ancestors came to Canada, present
day
Ireland was still uncomfortably part of the United Kingdom. It's
thought that the Presbyterian Givens originally came from Scotland,
migrating
to Ulster, Ireland. There they likely were Orangemen, supporters of the
Crown, judging by the elements of the Coat of Arms. The Hamiltons as
well
came most recently from Ulster, Ireland.
The Colpitts and the Burts came from England.
