She came to Canada and is listed in the 1881 census in Howard Township, Ontario with her parents and brother, Edward.
She was living in Ridgetown, Howard Township at the time of her niece Frances’ baptism on Jan. 25, 1889 when she was listed as a Sponsor (Godmother).
She’s listed in 1891 census in Ashburnham Village, East Peterborough, Ontario living with her sister Annie Burt Gerran’s family. At this point her religion is listed as Church of England and her occupation public shool teacher.132
She’s listed in Frances Cecil Burt’s birthday book as Bessie Lina Burt.1 The FamilySearch website spells the middle name Lena.
Listed in 1901 census in Dulwich, London, Eng at 122 Lordship Lane, age 48, occupation “No occupation (lately schoolmistress in Canada)”.38 This suggests she had recently returned from her years in Ontario. We know from her death certificate that she returned to Canada and lived in Elmvale, Simcoe County, where her brother Edward also lived.
She is in the group photo of her niece’s wedding in Elmvale, Ontario in 1919.
Cause of death is listed as “Senile Gangrene” of 2 months duration with the contributory cause of “chronic myocarditis” of 1 year duration.8
